The morals of plastic surgery
Many horror movies are based in the fear of deception, someone looking like someone or something that they are not, but what if I told you that is our reality.
We live in a time where moulding your face as if it is an accessory is the norm. All this is possible because of plastic surgery, a procedure that originated from war times, when men would get their face badly damaged from various wounds they could fix it to look like how they used too.
That fact alone makes you question if plastic surgery is moral. How could something go from so life changing to being so vain?
Another issue with plastic surgery is the lack of fear of injecting foreign substances into your face, I’ve seen this argument made with vaccines, but at least they are for the health of yourself and others, I even know people who won’t get vaccinated but will get plastic surgery.
And whether or not you believe in getting vaccinated I think most people can agree that one is an objectively better option than the other. So why do people choose looks over health?
But as most things, this links back to praying on the insecurities of women; telling women that they need to look a certain way and if they do not, tell them that they can simply get a surgery to fix it. When you ask a person with plastic surgery why they got it, they may respond “I got plastic surgery for myself, not for other people” which simply cannot be true, because if the media portrayed your features as desirable you wouldn’t want to change them.
But in the end it doesn’t matter what I believe is moral or not, it will just keep happening anyways, because with the rise of technology and social media, looking like everyone else is the beauty standard.
But it does make you wonder,
How far will people go for their looks?
